Dubai Monument

Rising out of the desert landscape, the tall emblem structure for Dubai is conceived as an evolving structure analogous in process to that of an osseous tissue. The structure consists of a two stage organizational system, one being the legs (vertical tissue) and the other, the web (horizontal and diagonal tissue). The legs provide for the bearing system composed of diagonal cross bracing. Their systematic behavior is similar to that of a lamellar bone structure, where highly organized concentric sheets of fibers parallel to one another run opposite in alternating layers. The diagonal cross bracing stabilizes the artifact in resisting compression and torsion. Likewise, the web (horizontal and diagonal tissue) is formed by a triangulated structure, bridging between the legs and morphing to accommodate enclosed diverse environments. This system behaves in the same manner as a woven bone structure of osseous tissue, consisting mainly of randomly oriented fibers. Its rapid growing and morphing system accommodates growth and evolution.
